Jesus Miracles

Take Up Your Bed And Walk - Jesus’ Miracles

There are lots of stories of Jesus performing miracles. He did these miracles to show everyone that he was the son of God. If he didn’t, they would not believe him. The leaders of the church didn’t like Jesus and didn’t believe he was the son of God. Because of this, he often had to do miracles to show them.

One time, he was preaching in someone’s house. Jesus was so popular that the whole house was full. He was preaching the gospel and performing miracles, too.

Everyone knew that Jesus could make the blind see, and he could make the lame walk. By now, these miracles had become common knowledge. Everybody knew.

So, some men came to the house. They had one of their friends with them. He could not move his body at all. He had lived his whole life in a bed, and always had to be cared for.

These men carried their friend in his bed, and took him all the way to the house. But when they opened the door, they were refused.

“Sorry,” said the man at the door. “You can’t come in, it’s full.”

“But, we have our friend here,” said one of the men. “He is in this bed. He can’t walk. We wanted to ask Jesus to heal him.”

“The house is full, I said,” came the reply. “I am sorry, but you will have to go.”

They looked at their friend in the bed. They felt sorry for him. They had brought him all this way, they were not going to turn back now! But, how would they get in?

One of the men had an idea. “We can go on the roof,” he said. “Then, we can remove part of the roof and go down into the house.”

“But how will we do that?” asked another.

“We’ll use some rope.” He said. “We can lower the bed down with rope.”

It was a crazy idea, but they had to try it. They lifted the bed all the way up onto the roof. Then, they took out part of the roof. Down below, Jesus was preaching to the full room. They tied the rope on, and using every muscle they could, they lowered the bed into the room.

Jesus stopped talking and watched the bed come down. Everyone in the room was surprised, including Him. They watched the bed come down, and when it had landed, he said, “Your sins are forgiven.”

Whoever would go to such effort to enter the house to see Jesus must surely have their sins forgiven! Everyone in the room cheered and cheered. The man on the bed smiled.

But, some of the church leaders were not smiling. They were there, and they didn’t like Jesus. They didn’t believe that He was the Son of God, and they were jealous of all the attention he got.

“Stop!” One of them said. “How can you say that his sins are forgiven?”

Jesus thought for a minute, and then he said, “Well, it is easier to tell a man his sins are forgiven, than to tell him to take up his bed and walk.”

“Yes,” the church leader said, “but how do we know that you can forgive his sins? Only God can do that!”

It was a challenge. Jesus shrugged and said, “Very well then.” To the man on the bed, he said, “Take up your bed and walk.”

Then, this man who had never stood and walked before, sat up in bed. He stood up to everyone’s surprise, and picked up the bed he’d lain in for so many years!

Again, the people cheered, much louder this time. And the church leaders were amazed. On that very day, they changed their ways and believed in Jesus!
